Victims of Communism Rememberance Day
#1
Today is May 1st from the frozen fringes of the Gulag Archipelago to the heat of Cambodia's Killing Fields. Let us all take some time today to remember the one hundred million victims of communism.

Huh?

The achievements of the labor movement and the struggles of the working class had been a fundamental part of history. The struggles of unions and workers around the world achieved recognition of the rights and leisures that society enjoy nowadays.

Equaling May Day with the worst consequences of communist dictatorships is morally bankrupt and utterly disingenuous.Censored

And then from the May 2nd to May 31st let us remember the billion or so victims of capitalism. And while we're at it, maybe we should have a victims of Christianity Remembrance Day on Christmas.Yoda-rolleyes

Um, It's the holiday for the labor movement. Not communism.

I'm all for commemorating the victims of totalitarian regimes, no matter what those regimes' ideologies were, but to declare May Day Victims of Communism Rememberance Day sounds like you're trying to de-legitimize the labor movement and their completely justified demands. It also reeks of just using the people who suffered under Communist regimes for some cheap political points.

It's impossible to not know what May Day/Labour Day is if you grew up in a city like I did where the accomplishments of social democracy are obvious. I can't even begin to tell you how offensive it is to me that an American moron tries to lump that together with whatever the hell the Khmer Rouge or Stalin did. I don't downplay the damages of totalitarian communism on the people; very much the opposite, as the welfare of the people is my biggest concern.

I'm sure if one were to tally up the number of Native Americans killed, plus the number of Africans who died over slavery, and all the people who died from CIA-backed ultra rightest dictators that America is right up there with the Commies when it comes to genocide and senseless slaughter. Maybe on 4 July can we have a day of remembrance for all the victims of the USA?

Garbage like this really makes me wish America would suffer under a Communist regime.RealmadCensored

You know, the Labor movement, as well as socialism, has very little to nothing to do with communism...

Sorry, I said that in a moment of shear anger.

It's just maddening to see American conservatives who think they're suffering under Obama (who is very much a centrist to right-wing person in European terms) who have never actually suffered under any remotely anything resembling communism.

I think I'll close this before it becomes a flame war.

Ford: About 12 minutes.
