Jesus statue fire damages estimated at $700,000

Quote:Charred remnants remained this morning, June 15, of the large Jesus statue iconic to Interstate 75 that was destroyed following an apparent lightning strike during a thunderstorm late Monday night.

The Lawrence Bishop Music Theater at Solid Rock Church on Union Road endured smoke damage, according to officials. Damages to the King of Kings statue and the theater were estimated to be around $700,000, said Monroe Fire Chief Mark Neu.

No one was injured in the blaze.

Now that's what you call ironic. Laugh
I saw a picture of that statue (which you can see here), and I'll say it was an awful statue. Good job, God! Thumbsup
God has a sense of taste. Who knew?

But you know they will rebuild and it will undoubtedly be worse.
How do we know this wasn't an act of Satan? Wink

I'd guess Satan would leave a gaudy statue like that up to keep up the horrible association between Christ and over-the-top, not-to-be-liked, eye-soreness.
lol, what did they think when they built that thing out of styrofoam and wire? That it wouldn't act like a lightning rod and catch fire? Rolleyes
