Horst Köhler resigns as the president after making statements which can be interpreted as to meaning he supports military actions to protect/secure German financial and economic interests - something that would be clearly unconstitutional.

That was a stupid thing for him to say, and he deserves getting kicked out for that.

Making statements "which can be interpreted" to mean something is unconstitutional?

^I think some people are kind of squeamish about Germany appearing to threaten military action... remember what happen the last time they did that...

I don't know much about this incident, but at least it's good to see that somewhere in Europe there are politicians that bear the consequences of the things they say, whether it be good or bad.

I personally think he probably just misspoke. but to hear such words out of the mouth of the German president is quite alot for some to swallow.

btw, he wasn't forced to resign, he just couldn't stomach the reaction and the criticism.
