Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn
This is my favorite book. Zahn does a great job with the story and he came up with some brilliant characters. Its hard enough fitting one new character in a book, but he introduced several main characters that would be seen in many other books, in one awesome book! I definantly rate this a 10 out of 10.
Shadows of the Empire: 9.5/10
Three reasons... Xizor rocks; Our characters are in the same developmental stages as in the movies; AND best of all getting a look around in Darth's head. He is a kickin' character, but being dead makes it hard to explore his villainous tendencies.
Vector Prime: 8.7/10
Sad doesn't mean bad This book is a great intro the New Jedi Order series, I love the parts on Belkadan they were intense and not the kind of thing you usually see in a Star Wars Books. Chewie's death was all bad, but the fact that you react to it is a hint that it is well done.
Cloak of Deception by James Luceno
Luceno has a great grasp of characters and he mixes some great amount of action with good political intrigue. He explains in detail about the taxation issues from TPM. There is a large cast of characters here including Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Palpatine (as Palpatine and Darth Sidious), and all of the Jedi Council. It's a good book. 8 out of 10.
