Anyone read it?
I found the book enjoyable. I'm not much of an EU reader, but I've read this book when it first came out. I have to say, it helped me understand TPM a lot better.
I liked it, it filled in more background for Episode I, and I think Qui-Gon's great, so I enjoyed it. Palpatine was an absolute genius too. I also can't believe they put Tarkin in it, he must have been pretty old during A New Hope.
I enjoyed Cloak of Deception, and I think it should have been released around the time Episode I was, so adult Star Wars fan were able to ease themselves into the whole 'prequel' era, but better late than never.

Not really, Cloak of Deception and A New Hope are only 32 years apart. And Tarkin was 64 in ANH, so that makes him 32 in this book.
I've read it and I thought it cleared up a few lingering questions about TPM and set the stage for everything that went on in TPM. I enjoyed the political entrigue as well.

I liked it, it may not have been big on action, but it's still quite worthy as TPM lead-in. Some may find it boring, but I like the political stuff, especially SW politics. This book does a great job setting up how clever Darth Sidious is, and that's the key to enjoying TPM (assuming you can enjoy that film).
I love this book. I liked meeting Tarkin. I also liked the slave uprising. The insight on the Republic, and the insight into the corruption in the Senate, and how Darth Sidious got in league with the Trade Federation to get his plan moving was also exciting.
It wasn't as easy to get into as Darth Maul book, but it's still quite in it's own right. The politic stuff sort of slowed the book down a bit, but otherwise, I enjoyed it. I thought it was great how they explained how the Trade federation came up with it's huge droid army.
