Government run healthcare works in every other civilized country, I don't see why it won't work in the US.
If any other company was run like health insurance companies, they would have been forced out of business years ago. It's like a restaurant that charges its customers, but kicks them out when they actually ordered something to eat.
Health insurance for profit is not itself a bad thing, there are plenty of profit-oriented health insurance companies in all supposedly "socialist" European countries with UHC and they make good business. The point is holding them accountable, stopping the Wild West-type practices and if it's basic health insurance making sure it's priced appropriately.

from the way most american conservatives talk about health care, america is either:
-too stupid and incompetent
-too fat and unhealthy
-too special to help it's own population
Honestly, I think that a surge for single-payer would do better than many people think. There is such disgust for health insurance companies in the US today it would probably be better to just admit up-front that they need to be dissolved and allow one central entity to handle stuff in an efficient manner.

The problem with that is many people don't believe the government is particularly efficient at running anything. Pinch

I can get stuff mailed to my house in a day through our government run postal service for less than what it would cost to send it via Fed Ex in most cases. I don't see why it wouldn't work for health care.

I'd go with point one. Wink

Health insurance is basically people gambling with their lives. We only get one life. The fact that it could end because some company doesn't want to pay for a treatment, after you already paid into it is criminal.
